Getting ready for the festival

When I go on holiday, I am a big fan of prepping for the trip beforehand. For me, that usually entails searching online for the best restaurants and things to see and do. It gets me super excited for the trip in the weeks before I go and, of course, I arrive knowing what I want to do.

Similarly, I like to do the same for festivals and conferences. To make sure that I get the most out of SWF, I have been reading books by the festival’s authors. A while back, I read Lola Akinmade-Åkerström’s Lagom: The Swedish Secret of Living Well. About a month ago, I made short work of Lizzie’s Harwood’s Xamnesia: Everything I Forgot in My Search for an Unreal Life.

Last weekend, I devoured Elinor Lipman’s On Turpentine Lane. And just now, I am enjoying Jess Lourey’s Rewrite Your Life: Discover your truth through the healing power of fiction. (Incidentally, her TED Talk is well worth watching!) Next up is Derek Miller’s Norwegian by Night.

I have to say, I am amazed by the depth of talent that our writers have. They are inspiring me to up my writing game. And I can’t wait to hear what they all have to share at the festival.

Have you done your festival prep yet? The festival is right around the corner. A quick prep tip is to read up all the bios of our faculty under “Speakers” and a few articles or interviews about their work!
